Our centre is located on the city campus of Long Island University Brooklyn, just one subway stop from from Manhattan and a short walk to the iconic Brooklyn Bridge and the East River.
The breath-taking Manhattan skyline can be viewed from Brooklyn Heights and Promenade. The Empire State Building, Central Park, Times Square and all the exciting attractions of Manhattan are all within easy reach on the subway.

Living

  • Rooms are located in Hoyt Halls. Hoyt Halls residence is located less than a 5-minute walk from central LIU Brooklyn campus
  • Students stay quad en-suite rooms or standard twin/triple rooms
  • Each room is furnished with a wardrobe, desk and chair
  • Laundry available in both residence buildings, $1.50 for cleaning and $1.50 for drying
  • The communal facilities are cleaned daily
  • All rooms have air-conditioning and linen changed weekly
  • Deposit of $100 required upon arrival, replacement of lost room key $20
  • Towel and washcloth are provided
  • Students are responsible to keep their rooms clean and tidy, bathrooms are cleaned daily

Food Options

Breakfast

Both cooked and continental, which might include pancakes, eggs, juice, coffee and toast.

 

Lunch

Two courses, 3 main course options including a vegetarian option.
Packed lunches (provided at weekend): water, fruit, sandwich, crisps and biscuits/cake.

 

Evening Meal

Two courses, 3 main course options including a vegetarian and halal option.

 

Snacks

Vending machines are located in the residence building for drinks and confectionery.

Meals are served in large self-service dining hall in residence building.

Learning

  • 20 x 45 minute lessons per week
  • Taught by friendly and professional English teachers
  • Placement test on day 1 to ensure students in appropriate level
  • Maximum 20 students per class
  • Students will be placed in an international class with students of different nationalities
  • Standard classrooms
  • Classrooms are located on campus
  • Curriculum with emphasis on communication skills
  • Materials included as well as an end of course report and certificate

Programme Information

Arrival

Students will be welcomed upon arrival at the Embassy Summer office where they will register and get their room keys so that they can check in to their rooms.

 

Welcome

On the first evening there will be a welcome activity which is designed to ensure students have the opportunity to meet staff and other students and get to know more about the campus, its facilities and useful information which will help them during their stay.

 

Activities

Activities are organised in between lessons and during evenings. These activities could be on-site or near to the centre. These may include:

  • Sports such as football, mini Olympics, volleyball and basketball
  • Drama and performance activities such as scavenger hunts and drama workshops
  • Evening activities such as karaoke, talent show, team games and Manhattan by night walking tours

Excursions and Trips

FULL-DAY

  • Coney Island: The original Brooklyn Beach theme park.
  • Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island: Students can take a ferry ride to Liberty Island and view this iconic statue. Visit Ellis Island the former gateway of millions of people who immigrated to the USA.
  • Metropolitan Museum of Art: Also known as ‘the Met’, this is one of the biggest and most important art museums in the world. Students also get to explore the Upper East Side.
  • Empire Outlets: NYC’s only outlet shopping destination with high-quality clothes and shoes from the biggest brands.
  • Macy’s 34th street: More shopping in what is known as ‘the world’s largest store’!

OPTIONAL EXCURSIONS

  • Bronx Zoo: The biggest city zoo in USA with over 650 species.
  • Madame Tussauds: Located in Times Square, this gives our students the possibility to ‘meet’ with the stars.
  • Broadway show: Students get to pick to see one of the shows available.
  • Guggenheim Museum: A world-famous art museum in a beautiful building.

3 WEEK SAMPLE PROGRAMMES

Extra

Each 14-night stay will include a total of 12 local accompanied visits to New York with visits/activities and 2 full-day excursions to major tourist attractions such as The Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island, The Metropolitan Museum of Art and Coney Island. Transport for trips may be by private coach or public transport.Students may have lessons either in the morning or in the afternoon in week 1, alternating weekly after that.The programme is for illustrative purposes only and is subject to amendments or alterations.
